2023 Project overview

ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECTS

Solar panels.

Solar panels.

In 2022 AWT Bavaria Ukraine started its company mission to become more environmentally friendly.

AWT installed 433 solar panels (39 engineering units and 394 interiors) with total power of 235.9 kW on the panels.

In summertime 35% of the company’s electricity consumption can be covered by the installed panels.

With the expansion of the Kyiv dealership with another building for a body and paint workshop, additional solar panels will be installed to generate 39 kW.

Budget : € 270,000

AWT goes electric.

AWT goes electric.

Since 2022, we produce our own electricity and for now it is impossible in Ukraine to sell electricity to the energy grid, that´s why it is the most logical decision from an ecological and economical point of view to electrify our company car park.

In 2023 our courtesy, demo and employee company cars consumed 50,000 liters of fuel, which negative impact on the environment we can now avoid.

What we do:

  • All company cars and most of the courtesy cars of AWT owned dealers are switched to electric models.
  • All other dealers must have in their demo/courtesy park 2 electric cars.
  • In total 50 electric cars will be in the dealer network.

Paperless business cards.

It is estimated that 10 billion business cards are printed every year, for which 7 million trees are cut for the production.

These trees could absorb 70,000 tons of CO2 per year, which corresponds to the annual emissions of 52,000 BMW 1-series in Germany. Even worse, 90% of all business cards end up in paper waste.

AWT Bavaria Ukraine switched all paper business cards to digital ones in 2023, to not further contribute to this negative environmental impact and at the same time elevate the digital experience of our customers, partners and employees.

The business card can easily be created, saved on the home screen of the mobile phone and shared via QR code.

Budget : € 10,000

Battery recycling.

Battery recycling.

In November 2022, Russia started to massively bomb Ukraine´s electrical infrastructure to cause a total blackout. As a result, thousands of households were without hot water, gas and electricity, sometimes for days.

In June 2023, the Kakhovka Dam in the Russian-controlled Kherson region was blown up and destroyed. As a result, hundreds of homes were flooded and without electricity. In both cases people used car batteries for electricity to secure the minimum livable standards.

AWT Bavaria Ukraine decided to reuse and recharge old car batteries and in total donated 50 batteries via UNITED24 to Kherson region and 500 batteries for humanitarian purpose to employees and partners to cover the winter of 2022.

Budget : € 75,000

Plastic caps for safety.

Plastic caps for safety.

Given that the long-term international support for Ukraine´s defense against Russian terrorism is uncertain, Ukraine needs to urgently scale up their  local production of defensive and offensive weaponry.
In 2023 AWT Bavaria Ukraine started to support the initiative “Safe the plastic cap” and collected with its employees 83 kg of plastic caps of bottles which approximately represent 17,000 caps.

These plastic caps were donated to an organization, which is recycling the plastic caps to produce reconnaissance drones.
The drones are handed over to the Territorial Defense Forces in the front-line regions to protect the villages close to the combat zones.

We are happy to not only have an environmental but also social impact.

SOCIAL PROJECTS

Reconstruction of bridges.

In October 2023, AWT Bavaria Ukraine inaugurated another bridge together with the major of Mykolaiv region Vitaly Kim.

This bridge is connecting Mykolaiv and Kherson and will contribute to the protection of the region and provide safe passages for residents of the surrounding villages.

This bridge was the 10th reconstruction project together with UNITED24 and was also the biggest project so far with 96 meters and a construction time of almost 4 months.

Budget of the 10th bridge: € 430,000

Budget of all bridges: € 1,400,000

Safe Skies - Early detection system.

Safe Skies - Early detection system.

In November 2023 AWT Bavaria Ukraine changed its focus from reconstruction projects to protection of Ukrainian citizens and critical infrastructure to secure a safe and warm winter.

Safe Skies - Pick-Up trucks.

Safe Skies - Pick-Up trucks.

As a continuation of the “Safe Skies” project, AWT Bavaria Ukraine handed over to the Kyiv Regional Military Administration (KOVA) 41 off-road pick-up vehicles as part of the Ukrainian defense project together with UNITED24.

Budget: € 1,082,000

Saviors at the front - Paravolan.

Saviors at the front - Paravolan.

Only a few kilometres away from the front-line, still families have their homes and try to live their regular lives, whilst being constantly confronted with the fear of Russian attacks.

From May 2023, AWT Bavaria Ukraine decided to transfer 50% of the monthly profit of the BMW online shop to the charity organization PARAVOLAN.

PARAVOLAN is an organization taking care of the evacuation of wounded children from the combat zones and front-line territories.

With the donations of AWT Bavaria Ukraine, more than 100 seriously ill children were evacuated and taken to safe places in Ukraine and Poland. In total, since the beginning of the war, PARAVOLAN managed to evacuate 384 children.

Budget: € 45,000

“Unbreakable” - Give orphan kids a future.

“Unbreakable” - Give orphan kids a future.

Since the beginning of the war in February 2022, more than 100,000 children are living in orphanages in Ukraine.

The Olena Zelenksa Foundation, a charitable organization founded by the First Lady of Ukraine, is focussing on the restoration of the human capital in Ukraine, supported by Hillary Clinton, Charles Michel, Matt Damon and Denzel Washington.

The organization is mainly focussing on children and especially on orphanages and their integration in orphan families (up to 8 orphan children in one family) and the provision of good education.

Donations raised are invested in the reconstruction of houses or laptops for distance learning in the orphan families.

“Unbreakable” - Give orphan kids a future.

In 2023 the custom motorcycle R 18 "Unbreakable" from BMW Motorrad Ukraine was announced winner of the BMW Motorrad International Customization Championship, among motorcycles from 18 countries of the world!

Empowering miracle makers - AWT Women´s Day initiative.

In the awe-inspiring journey of motherhood, some women find themselves facing the extraordinary challenge of giving birth to their precious babies earlier than expected. Especially in Ukraine, where due to the war the number of premature babies has increased by at least 20%.

These strong and resilient women, true miracle makers, navigate the complexities of premature birth with unmatched courage and determination, especially in current difficult and challenging circumstances.

AWT Bavaria Ukraine decided to support these women in this pivotal moment and donated € 10,000 on 8th of March, International Women´s Day, via UNITED24 to purchase three incubators. Incubators are needed to save the little heart of a premature baby, as an incubator is basically a very advanced crib. It can create a special environment with the necessary oxygen concentration, humidity, temperature levels, silence, and lighting, while also allowing parenteral nutrition and round-the-clock monitoring of vital signs.

Our charitable initiative on International Women´s Day aims to extend a powerful helping hand to the mothers, that not only addresses the unique needs of premature infants but also celebrates the strength and fortitude of the incredible women who bring them into the world.

Budget: € 10,000

This is Alisa.

Russian soldiers have been shelling Zaporizhzhia with S-300 missiles for many months. These missiles have low accuracy and often hit residential buildings. That's what happened in this story. The stress caused a 32 weeks pregnant woman to go into premature labor. A girl was born in the hospital with a weight of 1600 grams.
“The newborn stayed there for two weeks. That's how we nursed her back to health!” says Andrii Lobanov, an Anaesthesiologist at the Zaporizhzhia Oblast Perinatal Centre.

AWT Bomb Shelters.

AWT Bomb Shelters.

Throughout 2023, over 15,000 air raid alerts were declared in Ukraine, and this signal has only one message for the Ukrainian citizens – another Russian attack.

For AWT Bavaria Ukraine the most important assets are its employees, which is why their safety is the highest priority. After establishing the “AWT Safety Hubs“ in winter 2022, to provide employees with electricity, heating and food during times of blackout, AWT Bavaria Ukraine constructed two bomb shelters, one on its territory in Kyiv and one in Dnipro.

The bomb shelters consist of two similar modular tunnels with total space of 65 qm. They are equipped with two biological toilets, small coffee/tea bar, and entrance tambours.

In total 70 people can find protection in minimal comfort seating on the benches, standing and seating more tightly it could provide shelter for up to 100 people.

All employees are free to leave their working place during air alarm to find protection in our AWT bomb shelters.

Budget: € 100,000

Nuclear disaster and rapid response training.

Nuclear disaster and rapid response training.

During the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant has become the centre of an ongoing nuclear safety crisis, described by Ukraine as an act of nuclear terrorism by Russia.
In August 2022, the plant, which is the largest of its kind in Europe, has seen destruction of its infrastructure via shelling and damage to its power lines.

In the event of a nuclear disaster or rocket attack on the importer facilities, AWT Bavaria Ukraine started to prepare its employees during a “Nuclear disaster and rapid response training”.
Employees were equipped with high-dose iodine tablets, were taught security and evacuation procedures and lastly how to apply first aid measures.

Budget: € 3,000

AWT fund to support mobilized employees.

AWT fund to support mobilized employees.

Since the beginning of the war in February 2022, 24 AWT employees were mobilized so far and are serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Even if these employees are currently not actively working at AWT, they remain an important part of the AWT family because their commitment to protect the country makes it possible to continue our business.

In 2023, AWT Bavaria Ukraine not only voluntarily continued paying their salary but also created a fund to support with additional equipment to make their work in the Armed Forces even more successful.
As AWT fosters employee empowerment, the use of the fund is democratically determined by employees through an online survey after receipt of the request by the mobilized employee.

Budget: € 25,000

“A rising star“ – AWT charity and cultural event.

In 2023, for the first time in its modern history, Ukraine was celebrating Christmas on December 25.
This was a great chance to speak about and by that preserve the diverse traditions of celebrating Christmas in Ukraine, as since the start of the war, Russia is trying to wipe out Ukrainian culture and its history. The Ministry of Culture of Ukraine reports 1,189 cases of damage or destruction of Ukrainian cultural objects until end of 2023.

AWT Bavaria Ukraine supported the cultural exhibition “A rising star” curated by UNITED24 in the secret Red Hall of the Kyiv Central Station and organized the first AWT employee charity event. During the event, employees donated for the reconstruction of three bomb shelters to protect over 2,500 children and experienced the exhibition before official opening.

By buying tickets to a raffle, employees could win personally signed items from world famous UNITED24 ambassadors like Oleksandr Usyk, Andriy Shevchenko and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The evening was closed with a concert by the Kyiv Orchestra and a speech to thank all AWT employees for their commitment and support by Champions League and Ballon D`Or Winner Andriy Shevchenko.

Budget: € 100,000
